My exbf texted me this weekend. This is the first contact in almost 3 weeks, since he broke up with me.

I think he was drunk. He wasn't typing very clearly. I said I hoped he was doing well. He said he wasn't, that he missed me, and that we "needed to talk soon." Yeah, OK... . I didn't respond to that. We exchanged a couple of sentences about work (we work in the same field), and that was that. In all, the exchange lasted about 5 minutes.

I was quite surprised at myself -- I didn't even cry! I felt a shock of panic when his name popped up on my phone screen, but it didn't last. I felt strangely detached. Now, I'm not saying that I'm over him or healed or anything like that... . but I was surprised at how I was able to handle it. If he'd called instead, that would probably be a different story, but the distance of texting helped me, I believe. Mostly I just felt confused. Wondering what the hell he's up to. But trying to interpret him -- well, down that road lies only madness, I'm sure... .

Glad you are doing ok HN - contact gives us a good gauge where we are in our detachment process.

Sometimes a "hangover" effect can be felt a few days later.  If it happens, it will pass - keep focused on you.

Cheers,

SB

Thank you, SB! Yes, I was wondering if it might hit me later... . it's good to know what to do if that happens. The last thing I want is for this to give me a false sense of security of where I am.
