As I look back on things I blinkered myself to, I'm wondering about the "bubble" my ex created for himself.

He told me, at the beginning of our relationship, that his life was perfect. That !"I live in a bubble, I have my friends - it's just like when I was ten. And you are in my bubble with me now."

I blinkered myself to the oddness of this at the time but now I'm wondering if this is a typical safety  measure for BPDs of a certain age?

He's in his sixties and a psychiatrist told me that, at his age, he has probably devised defence mechanisms for himself. Like telling me that if we ever argued the relationship would be over. As it was.

I didn't experience extreme anger from him but I sort of picked up, along the way, that he might be scared of his anger.

Has anyone else experienced a BPD creating a safety bubble?
