Our adult daughter (age 20), is out of control.  She refuses to take meds, has quit counseling, works only 4-8  hours per week and  is very difficult to live with.  We want her to go to a treatment center, but we will have to get guardianship over her and force her to go.   Are there any treatment centers that really work?  We have awesome medical insurance that would pay the majority of the $$.  She cuts herself frequently, has multiple boyfriends, stays out all night and sleeps all day.

Hello Blondie,

Welcome to the Parenting Board, we are glad you are here though sorry for what brings you.  :'(

There are some very good treatment centers for suffers of BPD.  Some are clinical (hospital like) and some are more residential in nature.

McLean and Menningers are more clinical.

Clearview Women's Center and Life Skills S. Florida are examples of residential facilities.

No matter how adept a program is it must be tailored to meet an individuals needs and the individual must embrace the program (eventually).

I sent my d to RTC for 10 months at the age of 13 (she is 19 now).  She went willingly though apprehensively and it took 3 months for her to begin to do real work.  It was a gamble and it paid off in spades.

If your insurance will cover the majority of the cost you are fortunate and your daughter is too.

Hello Blondie,  Sorry to hear what you are going through with your daughter.  Life can seem like a roller coaster ride when you live with or love someone with BPD.  I don't know of any treatment centers.  Here in PA, I had to take my daughter to the Emergency Room to get treatment.  It was an awful experience.  She was the same age as your daughter so the doctors do not share any information with you.  I do not recommend you go the ER route if you have any other alternative.  Also, hope you can reach out to the people in this support group.  It helps to know you are not going through this alone.  Best of luck.  Stay strong!
