Gallows Humor...

I had never heard of this until yesterday- I realize I use it allot. Apparently it's normal when going through a hardship to lighten up the pain... .Do any of you make sarcastic comments or "jokes" about what you are going through? Feels kind of awkward, but I have found myself doing it; "Gallows humor is humor about very unpleasant, serious, or painful circumstances. Any humor that treats serious matters, such as death, war, disease, and crime, in a light, silly or satirical fashion is considered gallows humor.[1][2] Gallows humor has been described as a witticism in response to a hopeless situation.[3] It arises from stressful, traumatic, or life-threatening situations, often in circumstances such that death is perceived as impending and unavoidable."

I work in a very grave criminal justice job for my day work, and we make gallows jokes all the time about our cases. It's not because we don't take them seriously. It's that sometimes when you feel like crying you make a joke instead. I've found myself making more gallows style jokes about my ex lately. I hadn't quite realized that before. I think it can be healthy. It's a way to both recognize a trauma and bond against it.

I do it BH
People don't get it and think I'm crazy but yes, if we can't laugh we would certainly go crazier. Being able to laugh at ourselves is healthy.
