Sometimes I feel so alone while dealing with my BPD mother and then I read articles like this so I thought I'd share it... .

Great article.

What makes me uncomfortable about completely cutting my mother off is her age. Difficult people also experience the challenges of old age. On one hand she is verbally abusive and manipulative while at the same time being elderly and alone is scary for anyone.

She will alternate between being nasty and verbally abusive- expecting me to act like her servant- to reacting to my boundaries by disowning me- telling me she will never forgive me to waif - pitiful don't leave me all within minutes- to them acting perfectly fine once the emotional rage is done. I can't tell if these different personas are real or if she's faking to manipulate me. She lies so often I don't know what is true or real with her.

For now, my choice is boundaries and to not take the things she says personally. NC is tough in ways, so is LC with boundaries, so is just about any relationship with someone as disordered as she is. I guess we just have to choose what works best for us and our own situations.

Thank you for posting.  This is an excellent essay.  It resonated with me and given me things to think about.
