Joining to talk about my mother who most likely has BPD but has never sought help. Now she is 76 and suffering from type II diabetes and lives about 50 miles from the closest relative, my sister. It is very stressful and I am trying to help my sister cope but we are both dealing with the effects of growing up with our BPD mother. Thanks.

Welcome, and I'm right there with you. My Mother at 83 has had to move in with us, and it sucks. Try to see if you can get your Mother to accept some home health, home care people, so you can keep her in her own home as long as possible. It is really best for her, BPD people do best when they have some control over their own lives, and absolutely essential for your well being.
Look for a good therapist too, you are going to need one and they can help you establish borders with your Mother that protect your well-being and sanity. Good luck. Let us know how it goes. You are not alone in this.

Hi Kate_kate
It's the Board Parrot here joining

in welcoming you to bpdfamily
I am sorry your mother is also dealing with those physical health issues on top of her BPD. That only makes this situation even more difficult. What are the traits you see in your mother that lead you to believe she likely has BPD?
Growing up with a BPD mother can really affect children. In what ways do you feel your childhood with your mom is still affecting you now in your adult life?
