Hi my child was recently diagnosed with BPD after an attempted suicide attempt in December.     She has almost everyone of the traits listed for BPD and I never even heard of BPD before.  It is very difficult to even speak with her because she will immediately shut down whenever we try to start a discussion on counseling or other steps she is supposed to take.  I ordered some of the books but is there any other suggestions or resources recommended for people with recent diagnosis.

Thank you in advance.

Hello DeeDeeDelux, welcome, so sorry to hear that your daughters recent diagnosis brings you here, but you have definitely come to the right place.

It’s such a shock isn’t it to find out that someone you love has BPD, we have all been there and so we all understand what you are going through. I have to admit though that I too had never heard of BPD prior to being told by a counsellor that she thought that was what was wrong with my son.

How old is your daughter? Do you sense that she might be struggling coming to terms with her recent diagnosis? It’s such a lot to take in.

There are lots of tools and resources on this site, so plenty of information to be had. Take a look to the right  Bullet: important point (click to insert in post) and click on whatever you want to find out more about. We are all here to offer you support whenever we can, you are not alone x

Hi DeeDeeDelux

I also welcome you along with feelingbetter. As well as a shock sometimes it can also be a blessing to have a diagnosis. This is where we can start to learn about BPD instead of feeling in a deep hole of despair.

I hope you and your daughter are doing ok. Please know we all understand and care and are here to listen.

I have recently finished reading "Walking on Egg Shells" by Randi Kreger and a fabulous book called " Learning to Love Someone with Borderline Personality Disorder" by Shari Manning

Keep coming and sharing

Hi DeeDeeDelux

How are you and your daughter?  I just wanted to check in with you and see if you have you been able to find useful information to help you understand the diagnosis?  I was also wondering if you have been able to talk to your child about the diagnosis?

I certainly understand the whole issue can be very confronting.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope that you and your daughter are doing well as all of this must have been very distressing and challenging for you.
