So, I am a therapist- like a few others on this board. My mom is the one with the BPD. I did a training today (because i was asked to) on BPD and how our therapists and professionals could engage.
I wanted to share that it was absolutely beautiful. I did give my own experience of what a few symptoms feel like as a family member. It was like opening connection. Professionals opened up about their very personal experiences with BPD and PDs. We had an honest talk about boundaries, finding who you are, and determining when to NC.
I wasn't expecting that from giving this training, but you know what- the world is mysterious and beautiful and sometimes gives you exactly what you need. I needed to hear that other people are hurting from this too. People who I respect have gone through it, and come out the other side. I needed to hear that other professionals deal with their own behavior from growing up with people with BPD. It's so true. My own fear of outsiders, and trusting others... .trauma, and creating solid (even sometimes rigid) boundaries.
I just wanted to share that. Maybe someone is looking for some hope in the world. The more we break our silence as family members, the more we can talk about how destructive this disorder is and have open dialogues as family members. Maybe we can help de-stigmatize it, and people will go to treatment. I have a lot of hope that my experience in life is going to help someone. That's how I get through it. That's where I find the meaning.
