My DD23 cannot stay out of the hospital.  She is out for a few days or weeks and back in again the past couple years, always saying they let her out too soon.  She craves the safety and structure there.  We are wondering if some kind of long term facility would be what she needs. Not a state hospital type, more of a assisted living type.  She has health issues too so may even qualify for a nursing facility of some kind that cares for mental illness too.  Not even sure what all is available in this area. Any one out there have any experience with this route?

Hi sam,

Good to hear from you again   .

It would be difficult for you to watch your young adult daughter in this situation. You sound as if you are a bit scared for what is happening.

The difficulty with your question is that the circumstances are different for everyone. What one area may have is not available in another, all that sort of thing. Your best bet is to investigate your local resources, to see what is available for your daughter and whether it is appropriate and what is needed to gain admittance.

Is your daughter living at home? Is she in therapy and are you yourself seeing a therapist for your own support?

Cheers,

Vivek

Sam-99, just wanted to let you know that we have a similar situation as your daughter.  She did go to long term residential facility and as far as my daughter health issues were concerned it was addressed by many appointments on the 'outside'.  The facility was more than willing to accommodate her need for medical appts. and it worked out quite well.

Hope all works out for you and your daughter!
