The Greatest Love is the Love You Give Yourself

Because I cannot fully grasp where my ex is coming from I am trying to rationalize BPD to being very close to Alzheimers. A person with Alzheimers might remember moments and they might not, they might remember you one moment or they might not.

We don't get angry at someone with Alzheimers. They cannot control their dementia.

Now although a BPD can get some help (many chose not to) it is helping me find compassion that this is NOT me, it is the disorder. I can't imagine living with this day in and day out. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Rather than ruminate on every aspect of our relationship I would much rather think of it this way.

You described Radical Acceptance

This is a term I first heard in BPD treatment, but I think it really serves us all well in life in general.  Accepting the "is" not what we want it to be.

Peace,

I understand that you're in emotional pain and trying to find some way to deal with that. This is natural however I know of someone with Alzheimers so I find the comparison very offensive. BPD is not close to Alzheimers at all... they're two completely different issues.

I agree with you that it's not your fault- you can only be responsible for your own actions and other people have to be responsible for theirs.

Music fan,

Did not mean to offend.  Sorry if I did. I have a relative with Alzheimer's.  I meant that is how I myself have to rationalize things.  I know BPD s can get treatment while Alzheimer's sufferers cannot.

Okay... thanks Earth Angel... I appreciate the acknowledgment. I feel angry that there's not much research being done into Alzheimers. I'm sorry to hear that you have a relative with Alzheimers... .it's a terrible disease.

Earth,

I think, correct me if i am wrong, that what you are trying to describe in the behavior exhibited, to be more like amnesia of some sort, dealing with emotions. The way our pwBPD seems to forget everything good that they once saw pre-trigger day and the inevitable all bad that they now seem to only remember post-trigger day. This is how it feels like for me. Its like she forgot who the ___ i was after she got triggered and now views me as this repulsive monstrosity.
