criminal and personal background sites

Does anyone have a good LEGIT background site to do a criminal and also personal background check? I dont trust all of the sites that are online and would also like to make sure they are not notified. Thanks.

I really don't know of any that are good.  However, if you know the counties that the person has lived in do searches (many, but not all) through the court website and Jail records.  Some may charge a slight fee to search, but many are free.  If you are unsure of all the places they may have lived--some of the fee background check sites will give you locations for free. 

When I was doing background investigation, I also included the surrounding counties from where they resided.

I was trying to figure that out last week.  I did research and it seems like all of them have some problems.  Intellius seemed to have some good reviews, but some bad ones too.  If you find out, let us know!

A free site I used to recommend 4 years ago now hooks into a commercial pay site.  Can you ask your lawyer for a private detective recommendation?  Surely they have sites they trust.  Or ask a trusted friend to make the online request for you if you're fearful of retaliation?

Or do an internet search for the best comparisons.  One site put US Search at the top.  Here's a small sampling:

A good site should show you all the counties in each state they have pulled records from.  If they don't have certain counties. . .you could be missing stuff.  

Sometimes using the full name of the person you are researching can pull up interesting tidbits.
