Hi all.

Nice to see a community out there of people that share some of the same challenges as me.

I have been with my wife for around 15 years now, she was diagnosed with BPD a number of years ago, however she has put so much work in to getting herself better (thanks so much DBT!) she was actually told she no longer had BPD... .but occasionally something can still trigger it. Anyway, because of this, I have learnt alot about BPD itself.

This trigger is normally my mother. She shows signs of BPD and NPD, she has caused so much upset and hurt within my own and extended family, and has fallen out with most people she has ever known (so much that she refuses to speak to them ever again, even many years later ... .)

I should add that I have had my fair share of my own issues, mostly depression and history of substance abuse (which generally increases in times of stress) and have sought help as well.

Anyway, things are a bit tough at the moment, so its nice to meet you all.

Hope we can help each other out!

Hello Fordprefect and welcome!  I am sorry you are having a rough go of things right now.  Is there anything specific you want to talk about or work on?

Good for you for getting help for addiction and depression.  Those are a couple of big hurdles to deal with.  You will find lots of support, compassion and understanding here.  When you feel ready, please post some more about your story.  In the meantime, read!  There is tons of information here.

Hi ford prefect,

Interesting name, as I recognize it from Hitchhiker's Guide.

I have a uBPDmom and a uNPDbro, so I can relate to much of what you're talking about.

I know what it means to abuse substances after having such a mother. Good luck with your struggle.
