I think my mother has BPD. She is verbally and physically abusive. I'm in college and have no money. She says if I leave she will cut me off for college

Hi Proboscidea

Welcome to bpdfamily  I am sorry to hear that you are in such a difficult situation and are dealing with an abusive mother. Since when has your mother been verbally and physically abusive towards you? In what ways is she physically abusive, what does she do exactly? Do you feel safe around her?

Being in college and financially dependent on an abusive parent is a very unpleasant situation to be in. Are there perhaps other options you could explore such as working part-time to pay your way through college? Do you perhaps have other family-members that could help you?

You say your mother threatens to cut you off if you leave for college which leads me to assume you still live with her now. Is this assumption correct and when did she start with these threats?

Dealing with a disordered parent can be very challenging indeed and living in the same house as them can really cause you a lot of stress. I am glad you are reaching out here for support because many of our members know what it's like to have a parent with BPD and will be able to relate to you and give you advice.
