I actually thought my ex wife was histrionic until I looked into my exgfs behaviour and discovered BPD.

For me it boiled down to the dsm 4 and how the criteria for BPD was more of a match (she ticksall nine) and the frequency of these behaviours.

For your own curiosity write down the criteria for both and then grade them one to ten. Take an average for each pd and how many of the criteria of each they tick. This should give you an idea of what your dealing with. Dont forget though that these pd's can be co morbid.

Many histrionic behaviors are externalized, whereas waif behaviors tend to be internalized.

HPD is founded on being overly dramatic, the need to be the center of attention, openly flirtatious and sexually provocative.

Waifs are more submissive and dependent on others.  I would describe a waif as a comorbidity of BPD/DPD.
