Hi Lexi24,

Welcome   I am glad you found us.

Is your SO in treatment of any kind right now?   and is it having an effect?

What you will find at this site is Lessons, Skills and Tools that can help reduce the cycle of conflict and help us get stronger about establishing boundaries and holding them in difficult times.   We all understand what you are going through because we live it too.  Some to greater or lesser degrees.

How about you, do you have any support with this, a therapist you can talk to you?  Trusted friends or family?

He has gone through detox (about 20 x since I have known him) and treatment for addiction before I knew him, is seeing a counselor but can't get into a good program due to financial status. I also believe he has been misdiagnosed or only partially diagnosed with the bipolar/addiction diagnosis. His behaviors make sense the more I learn about BPD. He relapsed in November and has been out of contact since December 3rd -- until tonight when he called and left several frantic voicemails that his car broke down.  He does not have a cell phone anymore so he was calling from various stores.  He mentioned being done with the relapse but I am so tired of the cycle... .  I did try to call him back but he had already left on foot.  He really needs to be admitted somewhere.  He can't manage his life.  I am exhausted.  I do have someone i talk to.  I know I need to move on but am having trouble when he says things like he is going to throw himself in front of a bus.  That was one of the messages last night.

hi Lexi24,

Those had to be difficult messages to hear.   Of course you are exhausted.   Dealing with mental illness is tough.   I'm am going to guess that at some level you already know you didn't cause his behavior and you can't cure it either.    It's up to him.    Knowing that and embracing that can be two very separate things.

Having trouble moving on is very normal for these types of relationships.  Many of our members go through very difficult times.

What can you do today to protect yourself from further exhaustion?
