Breakups vs Periods of distancing
«

Is there a distinction between "breakups" and "periods of distancing" in BPD relationships? Mine had 20+ periods of distancing it seems (lasting 1-2 months), but only one true breakup.  :)uring the periods of distancing she would give me the silent treatment then come back after 1-2 months with a "hey how are you" and recycled me like nothing had happened. Is there a distinction?

Hey hopealways, I would say that there is a distinction between distancing periods and breakups in all relationships. In a relationship with someone with borderline traits it might be more difficult and confusing for us, however.
Either way, I think its safe to say that these moments can teach us a lot about ourselves (namely, where are boundaries lie and how well we stick to our personal values).

i guess it really depends on what it means to you.
my ex and i each said "its over", literally over a hundred times. that never lasted more than some hours, usually less. is that recycling? im not sure it matters. it was completely dysfunctional.
