Rehab?

Talking more with my son it looks like he's been using meth. After he's released from the hospital on his 5150 hold, which I'm hoping is more then 72 hours, I'm going to see if they'll release him straight into a rehab center. Does anyone have experience with their child in rehab? Do these programs work with BP people?

My stepson has been using meth since 15, he is now in his thirties.  He went to a rehab center for a number of months.  After he left the rehab center we had a lot of hope.  Unfortunately he has went back into this old habits.  He has been labeled bipolar, but with his drug use it is hard to know if the diagnosis is correct.  I'm not sure he has a chance any longer as it seems he has given up.

If you have the resources I would make sure he was placed in a long term facility, which should give him a better chance.  I also think that it is really important to resolve any issues that drive him to use.  My stepson has a lot of past trauma he hasn't dealt with.

My BPD daughter is in a therapeutic boarding school and we expect she will be there for one to two years.  They have stated 18 to 24 months provide the best results.  My BPD daughter isn't a drug user.

Our son went to a premier rehab that dealt great with the "addiction" aspect of things.  They also had a phenomenal trauma program.  But I felt they dropped the ball and let us all down regarding a dual diagnosis that was the underlying cause of his substance abuse.  All I can say, being as unqualified as I am, is to find a place that can address serious mental health issues in an intensive way.  As intensive as the recovery aspect.  We're back at square one a year later because his mental health diagnosis was not dealt with appropriately.
