Hi!
So my son was recently diagnosed with BPD Traits and has been in inpatients hospital 4 times in less than 2 months. He is currently in inpatient and is now being transferred into a long term facility. This is so so heart breaking to watch my 16 year go through this. He has been explosive ever since a child and no one could ever figure it out until now. He has become belligerent even towards me now which is hard to deal with. He is such a sweet boy that is kind and caring but the other side comes out and he is full of anger. My husband died almost 4 years ago from lung cancer and our son is still struggling with his death.
I am just reaching out for some connection because I am lost and dont quite understand why all of this is happening now.

Hi Babygirl,
I'm so sorry for your loss
Does your son accept his BPD diagnosis? What kind of therapy and treatment will he receive in the long-term facility?
What behaviors led to his inpatient hospitalization?
Cycling between tender cycles is not uncommon. And if what I just read is true, it does seem that BPD worsens in adolescence when their identities are a bit shapeless.
Does he have siblings? What are some of the behaviors he struggles with most?
Glad you found the site. We're here to walk with you.

HI
He doesn't really accept it. The DBT is the therapy that they will begin to provide. He tried to kill himself 2 twice by taking pills both times. He also cuts. He does have an older sister that struggles with her own mental illness of depression/manic depression. And anger and impulsiveness is his biggest struggle.
I am glad to be here.
Thank you.

My heart goes out to you and your family.
Multiple hospitalizations can be exhausting and many of us have been thru the cycle. The attempts of life are heartbreaking and mind-boggling to parents looking in.
I'm sorry your feel lost, but know you have FOUND a great place with people who can relate and help you along the way.

Babygirl -so sorry you have to be here AND it is a great place for support
As you help your son, please take care of yourself. This is such an incredibly hard journey and yet you need to find time for yourself so you can better take care of your son.
Wishing you peace on this road
