I posted here under another name years ago. I had found it very helpful as I came to grips with my diagnosed xBPDw Cognative Distortion during a prolonged court battle that lasted several years in two different states.
Finally after the intervening years the “Cognative Distoration” of a BPD has exposed her to the, court backing the children’s therapist recommendation for DBT.
I have returned to discuss the efficacy of this therapy and ask questions because it could mean that the children’s mother will be reintroduced to them after several years of no contact.

Hi LegioXX Victrix,
How old are the kids? It must've been a lot of trauma for all involved to get to this point. I'm so sorry for what you've had to go through.
Do you have information about what kind of DBT is being recommended? It can run the gamut. Does your ex accept her BPD diagnosis?

Nearly all people with acting-out BPD need therapy to gain a measure of recovery. (The only exception I know is Marsha Linehan who pioneered BPD and DBT research.) The problem is that attending DBT is only one aspect of the problem. Applying it diligently and making solid progress toward recovery is quite another thing. That's what your concern ought to be about if she seeks contact again... .Is it sincere and substantive progress toward recovery? Or is it just to check off the boxes to see the children again?
