I need help trying to understand my BPD daughter

My 21 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with BPD.  I have been reading about BPD and her life long behavior is now making sense. I believe there may be a genetic component (my mother) and some personal trauma exacerbating her symptoms and behavior.  I need advice on navigating a healthy relationship going forth with my BPD young adult, her siblings, and us (her parents). We love her with all of our hearts and we need to coexist in a way that protects our entire family. What has been your experience with what works best?  Thank you

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

They are very sensitive to stress, criticism, or anything they see as rejection. They also seem to have a high moral code they use to judge others.  So don't let her catch you lying, etc and if you tell her you're going to do something, make sure you do it.  Avoid making negative remarks and arguments.

I'm glad you found us and posted. 

Can you tell us a bit more about the behaviors your daughter struggles with?   Is she currently in therapy?  How old are your other kids? We have a lot of tools and strategies that can help though it is hard to recommend specifics without more details (hence all the questions )  Share as you can though, I don't mean to pressure you. 

I would recommend reading and participating in the other threads here.  So many of the parents here have been where you are and we all work together to support each other so jump in as you feel like it.  There are lots of articles in the topics tacked to the top of this board as well.   Read through them at your own pace.

Anyway, I hope you share more and I look forward to seeing you on the board.
