Hey all. I finally got myself into therapy and my therapist immediately called out that my mom has BPD. Turns out, my sister's therapist said the same thing. Found this group while reading "Stop Walking on Eggshells" and thought I'd join the conversation.

My history is way too long to try and write in an intro post, but I grew up as the oldest son in a house with a BPD mom who also shows signs of NPD. My dad (who was rarely home, and then left for good to go live with his mistress when I was 15) shows very clear signs of Antisocial personality disorder. When we met up last summer to talk things out, he told me the problem was my expectation for him as a dad had always been too high. His words: "What did you expect me to come home and ask about your day?"

I have two younger sisters. The youngest is on medication for depression and shows a lot of signs of Histrionic Personality Disorder. She's very dramatic and attention seeking in strange ways.

It feels strange to come in and diagnose 3 out of 5 members of my immediate family with personality disorders, but it's the first time in my life where there are real answers. I grew up in a world being raised by people living in entirely different realities.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

As an added bonus, my mom used mother's day as an excuse to book a house for a week-long family vacation later this summer.

What your dad said... wow.

How do you think the summer house vacation will go? How was mother's day today?

Vacation will be draining, but it's not my first and it won't be my last. Luckily, my job is fully remote so I will just work from there. My mom won't like it of course, but I'll be there!

And Mother's Day was fine, but mostly because I live in a different state. There was one Mother's Day, when I was 16 or 17, where she had a full meltdown because we didn't do enough for her. She thought we didn't get her a gift, so on the way to taking her to dinner she threw a fit. We had gifts for her, but planned to give them to her after dinner. Apparently that was the wrong call.

I can definitely understand having multiple family members with disorders.  My therapist thinks my mother is borderline and my sister is bipolar.
