Threats...
«

So last night whilst I was working the night shift he starts messaging me that he is slitting his wrists, had taken an overdose etc etc. I immediately go into panic, tried to call, he didn't answer. He has done this once before and when I said I was coming home he rang to tell me he was ok and hadn't done anything. This time he continued his suicide talk. I felt so helpless and isolated being 45 mins away. I was torn, did I admit to my manager I had problems at home and leave or was he just bluffing. I was in such a state I'm sure my colleagues noticed something was up. Anyway he eventually said he hadn't done anything but would if I continued my (yes my?) behaviour.
He also threatened things like, next time I have an episode (to translate, that means next time I disagree with him or try to discuss something, normal communication stuff) he will throw me down the stairs, or throw me out of the window!
How can he think this talk and threats are acceptable?
He almost seems to get pleasure out of putting me through hell.
He had left when I got in and will be away til at least thursday and I'm not going to contact him. I need to take care of myself.
Thanks for reading x

Sadsue,
I am so sorry for you. that must have been a a harrowing episode to go through-whether he acted on his threats or not!
if his behavior jeopardizes your employment at all, make a boundary and tell him flatly that NEXT time he threatens self harm you will not come home but you WILL call 911 and send them round to the house-no questions asked.
Especially since it was a stunt meant to control your (bad?) behavior, from his POV.
he will probably lash out (verbally) and act out at that boundary-but tell him this way his safety is guaranteed-as 911 gets to the house in mere minutes and you take at least 45. it's a win/win.
I say when they act like babies... . treat 'em like one.

I agree. I would send 911 as well. That way he can't say you left him to die because you don't care about him.
