All this time our family has been waiting in limbo hoping to get my daughter into a residential facility that actually targets her needs.  I just got the call that she is being admitted tomorrow!  I can not tell you what a relief it is to know that she is finally going to be able to get the help that she needs.  This is the only residential treatment facility in the state of NC that uses DBT as well as equine therapy and aggression reduction therapy.  I am not too crazy about the academic part of the program.

I'm new to the site, Googie, so I don't know the full saga. However, this sounds like fantastic news! I just wanted to say congratulations, and I am so glad for your family.

Thanks, too, for sharing the name of the facility. I'm sure that piece of information will be welcome news for others.

Peace and continuing healing for us all,

Great to hear the good news Googie!

What relief you must feel!

It looks like a very good program for an adolescent w/BPD.

Will she be in the "R" unit ... .  I assume she is since you say she will get the DBT.

Will she also have access to PPC from the R**ter unit?

It would be great if she did... .  the best set up for her success.

Your relentless pursuit has paid off!  So proud for you and of you.

Thank you everyone!

lbj-  Since its 5 hours away I have not been there physically, but everyone that I have grilled about this place says the same thing, that it's a great place, with great staff who push for progress not perfection and are just about willing to do whatever it takes to have the kids claim ownership to their issues and provide them with coping skills that are hard to come by in long term facilities.  I'm going to get all of things together and double check the list they gave me of paperwork they require for her admission.  I'll post an update once I have a chance, probably later tomorrow evening.

I will post when I return later on tonight.  I'm getting everything in the car and I'm off to the facility... .5 hours each way.

I'm sick with the beginnings of the flu it seems.  My dd did make it to the facility.  The drive was crazy for me, but that's okay.  I was not very happy when the admission process began.  Apparently, they left out a very important piece of information that I had been asking about which is the academic element to their program... .    it has been terminated.  There is no academic support offered at this time and I could not get an answer as to why or if they were working on getting another program started up.  I am very upset over this because their website is still displaying information about their education program and they put pressure on us to expedite my dd's admission due to new changes starting on 2/1 which could possibly interfere with her being able to have a bed held for her to be admitted therefore taking the focus off off my concerns regarding their academic program and putting it on the emergent situation as far as having her able to be admitted to the right program.

I'm working on finding out why they no longer have academic support programs and it actually makes sense that they would have bneds avaiulable if a lot of parents pulled their kids out due to the changes in their program.  I would hate for my dd to come home after a long term stay and have to start her freshman year over at 16 and 1/2 with her graduating at 20.  What are the chances of that actually happening?  None.

Ugh.  So aggravated.  I had to admit her because there was no contingency plan in place in case of something like this. I feel like I have had the wool pulled over my eyes.

But the good news is that my dd says that she is adjusting well and seems to be doing okay.  I will update with more info as I get it.

Hello Googie,

What can I say... .  oh crap!

On the other hand... .  getting her treatment is paramount to her education.  Take this time to practice some self care, regroup, research, and make wisemind decisions.

There are many ways to get an education these days... .  perhaps you can suggest to the rtc online public school... .  well supervised of course.  There is no fee, computers can be furnished, no teachers required... .  only supervision.  The work load (with an IEP or 504) is decreased and the pace is much slower.  Just an idea to get you started Smiling (click to insert in post)

Googie

This is also one of my greatest fears too for my dd15... .  the worry is sickening and I feel you stress over this. We all have this image of the life we want for our kids and we try so hard to try to keep to that picture. lbj always has good advise... .  on line school... .  something like that... .  Doesn't your state mandate that she be in school? I would try not to stress about it too much. She is where she needs to be getting the help she needs... .  that might be more important than school right now... .  good luck... .  you are a good mama

I'm wondering since she has an IEP if they are mandated to provide her with an education.  I will have to look into this issue, but for now I need to rest because it turns out that I actually have pneumonia and not the flu.  Don't know which is worse, but I feel like my head is somewhere else and I really don't need to make a fool of myself speaking to people in this state of mind, Laugh out loud (click to insert in post).  For now, my daughter is safe and is a good place to get help.  The education part of the puzzle will have to wait until I feel up to battling the system for information.

Feel better, Googie. You're smart: Good self care first, then re-tackle the issue when you're strong. So glad your daughter is in a good place. You'll work out the rest, I'm sure of it.

Peace and healing (and lots of fluids and bed rest),
