insight from my child

First of all my child is grown, however he has autism and an IQ in the mid50s... . he is being discharged from a residential school and wrote a poem about coming home. Much of it is about him but I think it is quiet interesting what he picks up on, despite not living at home for 7 years and this being his step dad for only one decade.
An Angel speaks to me And a Devil speaks me too Splits my soul in two My discharge is to my doom or to heaven It is in my hands to decide what to do. In my hands is the destiny of choice In my heart and what I chose to do My love is to my Mom as my heart feels threatened sometimes by the father of darkness. My Mom is like the angel that speaks to me. My Dad is like the devil that speaks to me. But sometimes I just wish I could go home with someone else. What should I do? I must pray to the Lord. I might not like going home with my parents but that’s what I have to do. It will be a good experience if I listen to my heart. All I know deep inside is that I am very frightened of the outside world. But I know things will be better than staying here at the fantasy world Hillside forever.
Never underestimate how BPD affects your children, no matter their age or IQ.

I SO agree. Same experience here.
Your son's development is so important, yet another thing to keep in mind when living w/ BPD spouses. Our kids who are cognitively disabled are at risk because they will have such a hard time understanding. You know how hard it is for a "normal" person to understand and deal with pwBPD.
