I have decided to make an appt. for my 16 yr. d to see a sleep specialist.  Long history of insomnia/poor sleep hygiene, etc., resulting in poor school attendance. etc.  I see that sleep problems are common in BPD's.   Has anyone here had any luck with battling sleep problems?

Hi cleanandsober,

The only success i ever had with dd's sleep issues was when dd did boxing training for a short amout of time... .

It worked until she fell out with someone there, but it did wear her out and becuse she was all sweaty when she came home she would go and have a shower before going to bed. After that went back to dd not getting ready for bed because she said that she didnt see the point if she wasnt going to actually fall asleep until about 5am. Often she would end up walking around the house in the early morning or watching the tv and then falling asleep in her clothes.

Now dd has a baby she is sleeping for longer at night (although gd still waking up to be fed)and napping in the day which seems to help.

I have also noticed that  when I have gd overnight dd does seem more perky and in a better mood the next day. Smiling (click to insert in post)

I am not trained to recommend medication, but Sleep-Ease might help her.  It needs to be taken several hours before bed-time.  It can  be a great sleep aid or else it sometimes has the opposite effect.  Maybe ask the doctor what he/she thinks of this idea. 

Just an idea.

I take homeopathic coffea cruda. It does stop the racing thoughts. No idea how.

UD18 was recommended for a sleep study, but, having been through that x2 for my husband, we decided to skip it. The "cure," if a problem is found, is often to wear a C-Pap. My husband does (sometimes!), but my daughter never would.

Good luck. Sleep is soo important. There was just a great article on it in the NYT.
