Hi, reality... . Thanks for the link; I will go and read it... . The state of Mental Health Treatment for BPD is pretty sketchy in the U.S., also, but from what I've read on this site, not as tragic as in Canada... .

In a fair world, people like your child and mine shouldn't have to suffer for so long, and sometimes without ever finding the help they need  :'(  You are always in my thoughts and prayers

Thanks for being here; you are a wonderful symbol of triumph over pain... .

Reality:

Thank you for the link. Such an eye opening article.  When I think of people needing help and not getting it, it makes me so upset.  I remember my first intake visit at DBT. After our intake they told me how they thought this could really help my daughter and then they told me the cost, and they don't accept insuranc and if you miss a payment you cannot come to group or therapy the next week unless you are paid up to date.  I remember just saying yes to everything.  I look at the financial ruins that this has placed us in and I often think, what does someone do who doesn't have anything.  We have depleted our savings, taken on odd jobs and I am not complaining as I will do anything I have to do... . but what happens to the person who has nothing, who has no savings.  Where do they go?  Who cares for them?  Makes me very sad.

Rapt Reader and griz,

The article in our national newspaper was very validating for me; however, it made me weep terribly for the loss of Will.

This article highlights the mess we have here.  No wonder we couldn't get a diagnosis.  Even, if diagnosed, there are no treatment facilities, except Pine River Institute, which was just starting when Will needed to go there.

I told him that it was going to be like looking for a needle in a haystack.  He replied in his inimitable matter-of-fact way, "Well, I guess, mum, we will need to burn the haystack down."

We were burning, but too late.

Thank you for listening... .

Thank you for posting... .

It helps.
