WE are trying to find a good long term residencial facility for our 16 year old daughter. Im working with therapists to find the right one for BPD adolescents. I really think this is our only hope now. Our insurance will not cover residential, so cost will be a major consideration.  Can anyone who has gone this route give me some feedback or own thoughts on facilities?

Hi Truefaith,

My d had successful treatment at Falcon Ridge Ranch in Virgin Utah.

Case History on Successful Residential Treatment

Not a full DBT program... . dbt wasn't working for my then d13.  Runs about 7500.00 a month.

Does your d have an IEP that might help with the cost of treatment?

I do not have personal experiences with these, but here are some we looked into. McClean hospital in Mass. has an adolescent DBT program. I looked into it, but could not afford it. We also considered Sunrise in Utah. It was our second choice for our D17. We did not select it because it is a locked facility which was a level of care we did not think she needed. It is a DBT program. We selected a place outside of Salt Lake, which I will not name since it was not a good fit for BPD even though they claimed to be able to handle it.

If you are considering a wilderness program, we were thrilled with Aspiro Adventure. It was wonderful for stabilizing our D and was where we got the Dx of BPD. Wilderness is just a beginning stepping stone in the healing process, but in a crisis, this was a good choice and helped her become ready for RTC. We felt it was very safe and our D even wanted to go back to their alumni Summer adventure. While she is still often disregulated. She did find herself in some ways there, found her spiritual beliefs in the wilderness which she is grasping onto and using to remain clean ands sober (over one year). She found Wilderness to be powerful. Her only complaint was the 3000 calorie diet made her "fat" (which all came off when she got back to civilization) Another positive outcome is that she now loves hiking, camping and rock climbing which are much healthier activities than her previous ones. Wilderness is just a first step.

If you are still looking, my 15 y/o D BPD daughter is currently 60 days +  into a long term residential DBT program and would be happy to answer any questions.
