Hello ilusa26!
The best way to avoid a "wrong" placement is to understand what the treatment needs are for your child. To understand those needs we have to understand the disorder.
In choosing treatment it is important that the leadership and therapists also understand the disorder and have successful treatment histories with other children. What kind of therapy do they use? Has your child been exposed to this type of therapy and rejected it in outpatient? For how long? When considering an RTC ask for references and call and talk openly with the references... .ask hard questions! Consider what type of therapy would work best for your child... .add to that any additional therapy options that might be available. (canine, equine, art, music, etc... .). Consider the peer accountability model they use... .if any. This was the key to recovery for my daughter.
Consider the kind of atmosphere that your child will thrive in. Is the RTC set up in a familylike atmosphere? Is it clinical? What level of security do they have... .is a lock down facility needed at this time? How long is their average stay? What is the monthly cost involved? Is this all inclusive? What's not covered? Will the family be able to financially sustain that long?
How much family involvement is there? Do we have family therapy? How often? Is there a structured visitation schedule? How much contact will we have with our child? When? Can they come home for a visit? When?
There are over 200 RTC's in the USA that my daughter could have attended... .I had to narrow it down to 1.
Read about it by clicking on the blue letters at the bottom of this post... .keep believing in miracles
