My daughter has had problems in the past dealing with relationships and cutting herself, i thought it was her way of getting attention. I now realize that she has BPD. i have just started reading about this and want to give her the support that will be the most beneficial. I don't know how to deal with this because i've never been in this situation before. My daughter is a very talented photographer and is attending school at this time, but things happen that throw her into tailspins, mostly relationships. My wife and I want to support her the correct way. Thanks for any help.

Has your daughter been in therapy before?  Now?

We have a wealth of information on BPD at this site.  Please let us know how we can best help you.

Please come back and post.  We have a group of very supportive people.  You may find some that have parallels to your story.  You are not alone.

Wayner, I'm glad you found us!

And let me just say how happy I am to hear how much you want to support your daughter. You'll find many other parents here who are like you and want to learn the skills and tools needed to be the best support they can be. I only wish all people suffering from these misunderstood illnesses had someone to stand by them. Smiling (click to insert in post)

How old is your daughter? Is she aware of your thoughts about BPD? If so, what are her feelings? If she has a desire to work on the issues that cause her problems she can do quite well, and even if she's not to that point yet, the skills and tools you can learn here will help you communicate in the most effective ways.

Here's a short article about BPD, and if you can read it from the standpoint of a parent it has some great, basic info: Facts About Borderline Personality Disorder

Also, I love this video: Video-What is Borderline Personality Disorder? It had a lot of "ahah!" moments in it for me. Does it fit what you've been dealing with?

Again, I'm glad you found us--this is a great place to learn and to grow.  Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)
