Welll today is my dd's 17th birthday.  Such an emotional day for my husband and I.  First we are so glad that that dd is here to celebrate yet another birthday.  When times are tough and she has had several suicide attempts, we don't take it for granted that she will be here for another birthday.  The other part of it is that my husband and I are feeling such a loss today.  DD has been living with her boyfriend for close to a month now.  ALthough she is only 5 minutes away, it is hard that she is not here to celebrate with us.  Although we called and left a happy birthday message on her phone this AM, we have not heard from her all day  :'(  Sometimes I feel like I a being selfish, but sure would have liked to see her today.  Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday muffetbuffet - this day will always be so special for you no matter what... .

Of course you would like to see her and celebrate with her... .

My husband and I have spent the one of the b-days of my step-daughter without her as well. She has been on-and-off with us and her b-day fell on the 'off' period. We tried to do something nice and special on that day and we talked about the nice and positive memories.

muffet

It is not too late... . I think often when I kids get older we have to celebrate bdays and other holidays on other days... . you can still celebrate with her. Maybe invite her out for a bday dinner? I am sure she is missing you both but her life is a little different right now... . or it could be that seeing you makes her feel bad for leaving... . I am not sure but try to make the offer for dinner and I hope that makes everyone happy... . if that is even possible!
