I have been broken up with my gf since the end of February and officially nc for a little over 2 weeks... . when it originally happened I had those horrible feelings of despair, loneliness, and that I just wanted to DIE! When I talk to one of my friends (he and I both are dealing with breakups with BPD's) we talk about how if feelings were able to kill us they would have... . because they were that intense! I'm not saying I don't still get down and I still will have those feelings but I am seeing progress and if I was able to make progress so is everyone else! What has helped me a lot is a lot of prayer, feeling those feelings, talking to my friends, and just looking at how this is god's plan NOT MINE!  I am a counselor myself which is bizarre I didn't realize my ex had BPD but that is a whole different story so I am fortunate enough to work with people struggling with their own demons and seeing them grow as individuals helps me to grow. This is why I like this forum so much because we all help each other which in turn helps ourselves. I am very fortunate to start to see the light even though it is just a glimpse I can still feel myself getting stronger and I know everyone that reads this can and will too! One of my clients said in group today " the moment I try to control anything that's the moment it is out of control" I am applying that to my situation and realizing that I cannot change it I can only change myself. I wish nothing but the best for all of us!

Thanks for posting this Kellyo.

Check out these points from the Mayo Clinic regarding group support:

Most of us come here when things are at their worst. It's a relief to find that others struggle with the same experiences and heartaches. There is so much more that can be obtained though, by reading and posting with us during the good times, and not just the bad. The Mayo Clinic has this to say about support groups:

Benefits of participating in support groups may include:

   * Feeling less lonely, isolated or judged

   * Gaining a sense of empowerment and control

   * Improved coping skills and adjustment

   * An opportunity to talk openly and honestly about your feelings

   * Reduction in distress, depression or anxiety

   * A clearer understanding of what to expect with your situation

   * Learning about new medical research

   * Getting practical advice or information about treatment options

   * Comparing notes about resources, such as doctors and alternative options
