I understand every family has an unique situation. I am weighing the advice from family friends and professionals of what I can do to help my 21 yo daughter.

She has had been baker acted this past July, spent a week in hospital, put on Ambilify for the psychosis. It helped, but she stopped taking after 2 weeks.

She is trying very hard to get back to her "norm" school and work, but is extremely lonely and depressed. She seems like receptive to go to therapy, but she isn't getting any ground in getting help, after spending 2 months with her, I had to return home.

I feel so guilty that I can't help her more. It has been suggested that I take care of myself. I am full of fear and at the ready to drive the 5 hrs back to her. But, what help will that do? I am afraid pressing the issue over and over.

Other than getting her baker acted again, I don't know what to do or how to feel.

Hello, SunnyDog &  Welcome

I'm so sorry for the troubles you are having with your daughter; it really is awful when we see our child (even an adult child) in crisis and not know what to do for her! Aside from her not taking her meds and being depressed, what other symptoms and behaviors is she exhibiting? Does her school offer any sort of Therapy or Counseling as part of its student support system? Does she have Insurance that might be able to cover something that would be outside the school?

Does she have a family doctor or other professional who could help you find some sort of service for her? Sometimes the Insurance Company supplying the coverage can give some sort of guidance as to what services would be available in the area where she lives. There really are ways to find the help she needs, and I just want you to know that you aren't alone in this; all of the parents on the Parenting Board have gone through what you are living right now, and we are here to help you... .

And taking care of you, too, is a very important component in this; if you are feeling strong and centered, it is better for you, and also better for your daughter. Please tell us more of what is going on with you and your situation, so we can better guide you, SunnyDog... .I'm so very glad you found us
