When we feel something we know it might not necessarily be true. For example if a friend is suddenly cold towards us we feel this but we can analyse the facts and we realise that as we havent done anything then we are probably not to blame and it is probably something else. With BPD they dont look past the initial emotion. The friend is cold to them so the friend doesnt like them.
If someone is nice to them then that person really likes them.
They take their initial emotion and run with it.
