My 12 year old daughter is heading down the BPD road...

Hi everyone,
I never knew anything BPD until my fiancée who was diagnosed with it and went through the intense and hard work of dbt introduced me to it. As if on cue, my daughter turned 12, her hormones set in and she began exhibiting signs of BPD. None of which she could've known about, unless she herself had these traits internally. And she certainly had experienced enough in her short life to qualify for this.
In an effort to nip this in the bud I am working on switching her to a dbt trained therapist and possibly temporary medication for a mood stabilizer. My fiancée discovered this website and I'm hoping to derive support, knowledge, strength and strategies from everyone here.
Thank you!

welcome to the family
sorry to hear about your daughter. it is excellent that you are being so proactive about this with her. i'm sure the therapy will help immensely. is this the first she's shown signs or were they there already but you didn't know about BPD and so weren't able to recognize them as such? what specific signs is she showing. when did she start showing them? i ask because i have a pre-teen son and a uBPDh. i had my son to counselling already and the counsellor determined that he was a very well rounded person with no real signs of BPD. it's always in the back of my mind if one day his hormones kick in and he turns into his dad.
you will find lots of knowledge and support from the family here. there are lessons on the side and lots of people with lots of stories/experiences to help you as well.
thanks for sharing.

Hi RosieRR
Welcome to the Parenting Board and bpdfamily.com.
I'm sorry to hear that your d12 is having so much difficulty. 12 is a rough age to navigate! My d was dx at 12 w/emerging BPD/traits. I remember the rollercoaster ride vividly So my heart goes out to you.
Are you able to find a dbt therapist for adolescents in your area? Does your d participate in her current therapy? Do you go as a family?
Which of her behaviors do you find most difficult to cope with?
Look forward to your reply!
