Hi, I am new and my son suffers from BPD and PTSD. I also think I might have some elements of BPD. I definetly suffer from PTSD. We kicked our 26 year old son out of our home about a month ago. It was pure agony and depression and deep grief when this happened. He was not assessed until we kicked him out. A greater power took over and helped our son find a really good therapist and get assessed. He has a very loving family who wants to help and understand. My husband and I are 64 and have raised seven children. We have a yours mine and ours family and the BPD is the ours. He is the last child to leave home.
We tried to get him assessed before he was kicked out but he didn't show up for the therapist. Anyway long story short he was using drugs to self-medicate. He is now seeing a very good therapist and is on medication and has a job waiting for him in July. He will be looking for a place to live. He is at a half-way house right now. I want so much to learn about this disease and understand and be a support to our son. I would love to talk and not feel so alone on this journey! Kelti1972

Hi Kelti1972,
Welcome to the site and the Parent's Board. We are so glad to have you here. I'm sorry to learn that your son is suffering from BPD and PTSD and am glad to learn that he is seeing a good therapist. I know it must have been terrible to have to ask him to leave.
There is a great deal of information here to help you get a better understanding of the disorder as well as many communication skills to improve your relationship with your son. The Lessons on the right side of the page contain a good collection of clinically based information and supportive threads to help you learn. There's a lot so be patient with yourself as it takes time to get our heads wrapped around all this.
We, the parenting board membership, are here to support you as you learn and give you feedback if you have a situation you want to discuss or any questions you would like to ask.
You are not alone Kelti! We are all in this together.

Thank you for the welcome. Yes, I am overwhelmed and need time and patience. I want very much to learn to respond and build my relationship with my son into a healthier one. I will start with the book and getting more information. Thanks again. Kelti
