Trying EMDR

Hey everyone,
My DD15 met with a different counselor today on an emergency basis as hers is on vacation. We were going to try waiting out the week, but when the police woke us up at three in the morning because she had called the suicide hotline, we decided it couldn't wait. This therapist does not believe she has BPD (I disagree), but PTSD due to a sexual trauma when she was 11. He would like to start EMDR next week. I am willing to give anything a try at this point, and fortunately so is my daughter.
I know that EMDR can be used for BPD, but I am worried because he is not familiar with my daughter and since he doesn't believe it is BPD, he would be using a different approach. I am also concerned about her well being if this doesn't help. I mean we really can't be much worse off, but the therapist told her that within 6-8 weeks this can make it "all go away". Sounds to good to be true and I am concerned that if (when) it doesn't "go away" she will blame herself for it failing. I really hope this works for her, but I just can't believe that it would be that easy. I am trying to keep positive in discussing it with her.

Hi busymind,
I'm glad to hear that your daughter is willing to try EMDR. It has proven to be effective in the treatment of PTSD. If nothing else perhaps she can reprocess the trauma she endured and be less triggered by stimulus in the environment. Being less reactive is a positive step towards a more balanced life.
Let us know how it progresses.

Hi busymind,
I just wanted to pop in and say that I have tried EMDR and had good results.
I am not BPD, but I have PTSD and anxiety disorder from severe childhood abuse.
Best of luck to you and your daughter.
