I am continuing to investigate if my UxBPDbf (stalker) can detect if I am reading his text messages.  

Just found this site: www.flexispy.com/ which is totally ICK if you are the target.  I chatted online and the good news is that physical access to the phone is required for 20-40 minutes to jailbreak/root the phone and then install it.  However, once on your phone it is not detectable (according to them anyway).  If I my ex has something like this on my phone, then I guess the only way for sure to prevent it is to get a new phone.

Being cautious with an ex is always a wise thing, however you also need to remember that pwBPD are master manipulators and fabricators of untruths.  Many of the things they do and say are meant to have twisting in circles and somehow lead us back to needing them.  Even negative attention is better than no attention.

For your protection, consider options to make you feel safer - digital audio recorder, security cameras, etc.

If you really concerned that your ex is able to see your messages, consider enlisting an accomplice in a little exercise.  Face to face work out some type of set of egregious accusations that you can manufacture that you know will get the ex's attention and that he will not be able to resist responding too.  For example - Hey friend guess what I just found a $10,000 lottery ticket that crazy exBf left behind, I am rolling in it. Or hey police came by and told me they are looking for crazy exBf.  Be creative, but remember in person your collaborator know its all made up.

If x reaches out to contact you about whatever that manufactured topic might be, boom you have your proof.

YES(!), ugghh, the number of lies and manipulations are far too many to count.   I essentially believe nothing he says.   And yet, somehow  I doubt nothing either.   With him,  nothing is impossible tho nothing is believable either.  It is an interesting paradox.   Though,  maybe this isn't really surprising,  as so much of BPD is paradoxical (push/pull,  etc.).

Great idea to test him,  but I have cut ties with the one mutual friend we have.   It seems he has tried to test me in a similar fashion,  but I have not taken the bait.

I will probably just choose to not worry abt it.   Seems there are some easy enough workarounds for read-receipts on email.   Too bad that doesn't seem to be true for texting.

Oh let me clarify. If you are concerned that the X somehow has access to your phone, you would text those accusations to your friend (who is in the know).  It does not have to be a mutual friend it just has to be someone who knows you are just testing him.  The test is that if he has access your phone via spyware, he will react.

But yes ultimately the best way to handle it is to get to a point where you can totally ignore him.

Real life example, names have been changed... .  Sibling asked me in person to talk on the cell phone about details of an inheritance from a relative who died, I was to say the papers were in the mail.  The suspected tapper had someone with sophisticated surveillance equipment and no surprise he made sure to pick up the mail each day that week.  Suspicions confirmed.
