My almost 21 year old daughter asked me to go with her to her psychiatrist appt last week.  Dr. diagnosed her with PTSD and ADHD and MDD since she has been seeing her this past year.  New diagnosis was added - BPD.  I'm heartbroken because I know how hard it is to treat BPD.  How can I help her?

Hi swampy2,

Welcome to the Parenting Board.  I'm sorry to learn that your daughter is suffering so much.  It's heartbreaking for us to know that our children are hurting.

Learning about the disorder, how to communicate beneficially with her, and taking care of yourself are all things you can do to help your daughter.  In the right side bar are a collection of information that will help you do all these things.  It's a lot to undertake so be patient with yourself, take time to absorb it step by step, ask questions here and allow the other parents to support you as you learn.

We are here to help you.
