My child was recently diagnosed with Delusional Paranoia disorder.  She believes people are out to harm her which causes her to act out recklessly.  She was recently let go from her job, she had no explanation other than the people out to harm her spoke with her employer and the employer let her go.  She got on a plane and went to Europe to escape these people.   Thankfully she has stayed in touch but her reaction to her environment has become more paranoid.  I am afraid she will never come back, maybe she will start to act strangely and someone over there will have her locked away and I won't know how to find her.  I am a mother worried into sleeplessness, and upset stomach.  I know she is an adult and I can't stop her, I tried everything I could think of short of having her arrested and committed involuntarily (Did that in the spring of this year, it didn't help she can choose to leave and she did). Is there anyone out there that can help me cope or better yet find a way to live with the pain.

Hello, dslbmom, and welcome to this site    I'm so sorry that your daughter is having these troubles, and that her situation is causing you so much pain... .Every parent on this Board knows the frustration, fear, stress, and heartbreak involved with watching our disordered child--even our adult child--live with so much pain. Seeing them self-destruct right before our very eyes, and feeling like we can do nothing about it, is overwhelming! You are among compatriots, dslbmom, and we want to help... .

Though this site is basically about living with and learning how to communicate with our Borderline Personality Disordered loved ones, your needs can also be helped by checking out the links to the right-hand side of this page. We also have several Feature Articles linked to under the 4 photos at the top of the thread listings on this (the Parenting) Board. These are for us to learn self-care, coping and healing strategies for ourselves, as well as strategies for dealing with our children. And we are here for you, too, with our support and insights gleaned from our own experiences  Smiling (click to insert in post)

How old is your daughter? How long ago did she leave? Was she living with you before she left? You say she is still in touch with you--that is great! Do you know of any Therapists or Counselors, or ways to find out, for the location she is in? If you found some mental health resources for her, would she call them in an emergency? I can certainly commiserate with your fears and sleeplessness due to her being so far away from you while in this mindset; it's a terrible burden to bear!

One thing you can do to get your mind off of this stress is to read all you can on this site, and learn what you can, so that when she calls or contacts you, you will have the knowledge to figure out the best way to help her. Keep telling us more of your/your daughter's story, and keep asking questions; we want to help

P.S. We also have a Board for questions about other disorders that could answer your questions, too, dslbmom: Questions About Other Impulse Disorders. Just wanted to mention that... .
