I don't usually post in this section since I don't have a kid but I think there is some real validity in hypnosis, especially with a BPD trained professional.

My ex had a few hypnosis sessions and he came back feeling good and understanding, which lasted a couple of days. I think this proves that hypnosis is not enought to fix the problem but it may make them more understanding and liable to reasoning with you.

I actually asked a CBT trained professional and she said that hypnosis is not enough alone but in conjunction with CBT and DBT it has some real value. It's sort of like a temporary relief without the need for drink and drugs.

There are some 8 hour long hypnosis sessions for negativity on youtube that your child can sleep to. It can't hurt to try. Just make you don't slip in old habits and thinking they're fine before they are better or they may not try it again.

Hi Cleanglass

Thank you for sharing that is very helpful.  We are exploring all options and have not ventured there yet.  My 28yr daughter is in DBT and practising self soothing and all the skills, on meds and finally appreciates 24/7 crisis team to speak to to avoid a crisis etc.  I think she may find this an additional coping skill to avoid crisis, if it feels right. Also wondered about Chinese medicine.

Good to find what works in supporting DBT that is working, small steps. My daughter is appreciating all the additional support to DBT which is her good touch stone.

Forgot to share with everyone. Daughters 16 yr old cat Charlie died last year at the same time as her beloved 95 year old Grand Father.

New addition to the family last Tuesday - 4 week old grey and beige tabby rescue kitten that she has named Hope Bonnie Moon Bean. 

Yet more self soothing for her and her responsibility in every way, my enjoyment  Smiling (click to insert in post)

I'm a grand kitten mother ... .and that is good, for now.

For stress reduction and/or self-soothing, I've used hypnosis, mantra meditation, guided meditation and mindfulness.  I've found that they can all be beneficial.  Good to have a variety of tools that can fit into various situations throughout the day.

Hypnosis and many forms of meditation are great when you can kick back and close your eyes for a period of time.  When you can't do that, mindfulness exercises and watching a video steam meditation on YouTube can be helpful.

Animals are great for comfort and soothing.  Wendydarling, hope your daughter enjoys her kitten!  They can be a lot of fun.

I think people with BPD respond well to animals, particularly the responsibility of caring for one. They can be very loyal and the person with BPD can feel soothed by this without really understanding it.

Hypnosis, used regularly, can be extremely life changing. It's a good way of having people feel validated and more in control of the validation since they can use the meditations and hypnosis at their own pace and discretion. I will stress that it's not to be used a replacement to DBT. It can help relieve the worries and stresses of DBT though.
