My adult daughter has symptoms of BPD.  She is married with two children.  I drive the children back and forth to school, so I am aware of what is going on.  She is very private and ignores me when she is overreacting.  I believe she is on medication but still has episodes.  If I try to discuss anything personal, she gets upset and I want to be able to see the children to be sure they are OK, so I keep quiet.  Is there any way I can help make life happier for the children and help my daughter to cope with her emotions?

Hi Jessylyn,

Welcome

It can be very trying to have a loved one in your life with traits of BPD.  We understand.  To get right to the point, yes, there are some things you can do to make your interactions with your daughter less problematic.  Can you change her, no... .that is up to her... .but you can change how you react to and communicate with her.  In the upper right hand margin of this page are some tools and lessons designed to help you do just that.  This support group can help you on your way in giving feedback on how to an when to implement these new tools.  We can control us, and that's where the focus needs go.  What particular difficulties do you seem to face on a regular basis in your situation?  It would be helpful to have some more details shared if you feel comfortable.  You have found a great place for knowledge, understanding, and sharing.  We are here to walk with you
