My 38 year old daughter was diagnosed with BPD when she was 14.  She has a 15 year old daughter, my granddaughter, who is drowning in the household with her mother, who rages at me infrequently and rages regularly with her daughter.  My granddaughter has finally agreed to try therapy for herself and has asked me to help her find a therapist. My daughter refuses to get help.  My granddaughter will not leave because of their dogs and fear her Mom will harm herself.  Any suggestions on what kind of therapist to look for for my granddaughter?  I have gone to counseling for myself for a very long time and also am a long time member of AA and Alanon.

So much of it is how it is to be paid for, insurance, cash, etc.  Psychology today has a good search tool to find therapists who are near where you are living and you can filter types of insurance, what kinds of topics they specialize in, distance, etc.  If the the insurance is Medi-Caid, this also makes a difference.  Depending on what State you live in, the state Medi-Caid agency may have a way to search for mental health resources.
