Hello, first post! I'm a mom to a 21 year old son with BPD. He lives with me, my husband, and our other children, a 19 year old daughter and a 15 year old son. The last ten years- well actually the last 21 years, but particularly the last ten- have been incredibly difficult. My bpd son began life as a girl, and transitioned between ages 14 to 18. About three years of suicide attempts, institutionalization, family therapy, was followed by another three years of drug addiction, rehab after rehab after rehab, most of which he was kicked out of. It's been a very rough ride and I just need some kind of community, a lifeline of hope. Hello!

Hello Emilita and thanks for posting.
Yes you have had a tough time for sure - as had all the family.

It is a huge and difficult thing to transition by itself, but with BPD it is enormous - once again not only for the person concerned.

Here we are all on that BPD journey that is a challenge each day. There are so many aspects of this illness and each of us has to cope with one or more of the aspects that are predominate for our child.

Your son is young - by BPD standards that is - and has had the added stress of transition. For many, the symptoms of BPD can ameliorate in the 4th decade ie when the person is in their 30s. Once again not the case for everyone.

But 30 is such a long way off at this point in- is avle to  time for you! I hope you - and each member of the family is able to find some small space each day where they can nourish their own life journey.

Once again thanks for posting. It makes a difference for each of us knowing there are so many people who understand the chaos of BPD
