When I first joined this group, my daughter (now 18) had been diagnosed with provisional borderline personality. The doctor said if she was 18 at the time she would not hesitate to drop the "provisional"

Since then my daughter has entered and  spent over a year in residential treatment. The team at the facility has given her the full BPD diagnosis yet she still needs to have a full psych evaluation once she is out of treatment. She might not graduate from this current  program, as she has been slow to progress through rhe required stages.

I had forgotten about this group and I am  thankful for a reminder it is here!

Now that my daughter is 18, dealing with her has presented new challenges.

I've had one friend suggest I get legal guardianship of her. I'm not sure how that will benefit either of us.

We live in Alaska and one thing I find myself most concerned about is her continued care once she is out of the facility she is on now. She will need continued wrap around services and there seems to be very few options.

I'm Going to be sure to check back here more often! I have a lot of questions and thoughts about this new chapter in my daughter's life.

Hi there Gmama

Welcome back to the forum. I'm glad you rediscovered us!

My BPDs26 lives at home with us at the moment so it's problematical at times. Better communication has helped our relationship despite the problems.

I live in the uk so treatment options are very difficult to access. Im sorry I can't answer your question about guardianship.

Have you been in any family therapy or have support for yourself?

Will your daughter be returning home to you, if so when?
