My daughter was just diagnosed with BPD and I am afraid for her future.  She is a smart, beautiful 16 years old and has struggled with depression, anxiety, and risky behavior. I'm not even sure what to think about this diagnosis. I mourn for my little girl as I read through the long-term problems she will have. Will she find peace in her life? Will she be able to be independent someday? Will she self-medicate into addiction? I am in constant fear for her and feel frustrated and confused by her. She is beginning therapy again... .hoping to find the right treatment. I need hope,

Let me tell you there IS hope   I was exactly where you are 2 years ago when my DD then 16 was also diagnosed .

I’m not sure if I’ve copied and pasted this right . Forgive me , I’m not much of a typist or poster but this thread talks about what we’ve been through as a family and where we are right now .

Pleased to say we are still going strong ! my DD who will be 18 next month has been an absolute doll this whole festive season . I have my DD back . I’m hoping it will continue .

If you read my thread above and some previous posts of mine , you’ll see we have been to the pits of absolute hell with my DD .

I discovered the same thing about my Sd ( who i look after ) at about 16 to.

I showed her the movie a beautiful mind, and asked here why i did that and she understood,

accepting the condition is a major step towards handling it.

Dr M Linehan said, just because you feel crazy doesn't mean you have to act crazy.
