Birth Control and BPD?

Okay. This may seem a little out of left field, but the problems with my wife really ratcheted up when she went on Mirena, a long term implantable birth control, several years ago. It could totally just be a coincidence.
However, I've always wondered if this was partly responsible for bringing a latent problem to the surface. Has anyone else observed anything similar?
Just curious.

YES!
Shortly after she had it put in she went into a tailspin of rages. For months I felt like I didn’t know who she was! I too thought it had something to do with her mierna. Initially I thought just new hormones it’ll settle down. It did for awhile but never really returned to where she was w/o it.
I researched like crazy in the beginning but it was too new. Same research today and you’ll find many claims of “crazy making”.
My wife is overdue to have it removed and I’ve often wondered if the last 6 months has been made worse by a change in hormones (perhaps the mirena is no longer working). It could be that coupled with the fact that at 38 she’s probably starting some changes anyways.
Don’t have anything clinical for you, just wanted to let you know I went through the same thing.
Good luck

Hi !
Some female perspective on Mirena : I had one years ago and I hated it. I don't remember if it caused mood swings, but my skin got very oily and I had tummy aches.
I finally got rid of it and have had an iron one since (without hormones). Best decision ever !

Yep! I no longer date women on birth control, period. Applies to all females, not just those with BPD.
