BPD and physical issues

Hi! I have recently become aware that my 25 year old child is BPD. After many years and many struggles, we are coming to this conclusion. In addition to the mental issues, also experiencing gut issues, lower back/hip pain and brain fog. Have any of you seen this in dealing with the BPD in your life? I am struggling with whether to view the physical issues as causing mental issues or are the mental issues causing physical issues? Any thoughts/comments are welcome. Thanks!

Both my uBPD exs suffered from migraines, joint pain ( fibromyalgia type symptoms), high blood pressure to name but a few. I believe a lot comes down to stress. If you look at the effect certain hormones have when out of balance then you will see it can cause numerous symptoms. The fact that these ailments come and go also make me believe it is mood related.

Hi
My view is living a life in high tension, the nervous system affects overall health. The living environment is really important to reduce stress levels, a relaxed loving supportive atmosphere where my DS FELT loved and not judged was our answer to a better relationship.
My DS will physically feel a lot of things that simply are hard to understand. The fact that he feels them though is enough to see that they are problems. His concerns are real to him,
My DS is 26

You are absolutely right. The stress and resulting release of cortisol do cause a wide array of physical symptoms that are similar to those seen in fibro or CFS. I have seen it and felt it. No doubt about it.

Dear OP,
Check this out. It is an article in Scientific American about how issues with the gut can effect mental health:
