Just got the diagnosis and beating myself up because I missed all the signs -- since childhood.  He is 18 and graduated HS.  My heart just breaks for him

Krystyn -

I'm sorry that you're going through this.  My DW and I just researched a ton of places for my BPDD, also 18.  She is currently in one.

As far as beating yourself up, for sure, I am in touch with that emotion... .we didn't recognize the signs either.  I stopped beating myself after I finally asked myself whether I was qualified to even look for the signs in the first place (spoiler alert:  I wasn't.)

All of the signs in my DD case were obvious in hindsight, but heck, I didn't even know what half of them were called before I saw a definition and a word.

We did online research for long term (90 days or more) residential treatment facility, found about 20, whittled them down to 4-5 from online research, and called them.

We found that one stood out, and she's there now.
