I've read about CRAFT (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_reinforcement_approach_and_family_training) a couple of times, it's a different method of dealing with loved ones who are addicts. I was wondering if anyone here has tried that and how it went?

hyacinth bucket, as a chemical dependency counselor I can tell you I skimmed this article and then printed it out. What I saw was all information that I have used over the last 22 years. I never called it by that name. Let me read the whole thing really closely and digest the core of what the results are supposed to be. I'll get back to you real soon, hopefully today.

Hi there Hyancinth,

Ive heard about this approach , I heard about it from our family therapist who sent me an online link. After reading the article , I ordered the "20 min guide" book and also the full book by the same authors. I found it helpful. I haven't read the full book yet, I tend to read things and fits and starts because I feel I need a break from the reading sometimes. But so far, Ive liked what I read and it makes a lot of sense. It certainly helped me to feel more tolerant and less judgemental and reactive to my DD.

Hi Hyacinth bucket, bluek9 back with you. I have read the whole article about CRAFT. Is the person in your life an addict? I guess I would have a few questions but, I won't belabor them now. I have been using this method for a long time, I personally find it very helpful. My BPDD was addicted to meth for a year before she went to rehab. Using the specific techniques in this method can very helpful for the loved ones. Maybe try getting the 20 min. guide that yepanotherone talked about. Let me know hoe it goes with you.

Thank you so much Bluek9 and Yepanotherone! I will check out the 20 min guide. My daughter has used pretty much everything except heroin. She's been doing meth lately. I don't know if she's physically addicted, yet.

The book is called “ A families guide ; Beyond Addiction “and its by the same authors who devised the CRAFT approach . I bought a used paperback copy of it on Amazon for $8 ! I bought the 20 min Guide on Amazon too . Definitely good buys and quite easy to read .
