My Daughter has BPD, in court battle for my GD

My daughter suffers from BPD. I am a big part of the reason because when she was 10 I gave up my rights to my daughter. I had fought to stay in her life for those 10 years but was not strong enough to keep fighting her mother who had moved several hours away from me and only allowed me to see my daughter 1 day every other weekend. This was the worst mistake I ever made in my life. My daughter connected with me when she was 18, kicked out of her home and pregnant. She had been abused by her StepFather, who I thought was a better father for her then me because he had been in her life since she was 3. Fast Forward - I have a granddaughter, and am now in a court battle with her great-grandparents as they could not handle my daughters behavior and asked her to leave, but kept my granddaughter.

Hello kflargo
I'm glad you have joined us parents here, this is a safe place to land, there is no judgment here, we do our best supporting each other
You are seeking custody of your granddaughter, are the great-grandparents on maternal or paternal side? How is your daughter?

Hello kfllargo,
I’m joining
wendydarling
in welcoming you here
First of all I would like to say how pleased I am to read that at age 18 your daughter reconnected with you, although her reasons for doing so are very sad. I can only imagine how you must have felt at the time.
So now, you are in a court battle over your granddaughter, could you give us a few more details please? You say that your daughters great-grandparents asked her to leave, so where is your daughter now, is she living with you? Are you wanting to help your daughter get her daughter back from her great-grandparents?

Welcome from a fellow newbie kflargo!
It sounds like you have been thrust into a really overwhelming situation and I hope you will find some peace and help here. I encourage you to learn and ask questions as I have been doing. The things that I have learned here in a week or so have helped more than years of therapy (for mostly my daughter but me too). Already I am finding a more positive way to communicate to my 23 year old daughter.
Please feel free to vent if you need to... .you are facing legal, financial and emotional challenges that may be very tough. Share here and read some of the other parents stories. I promise it will help... .knowledge is power.
